miriam beard: travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.
why travel?
i can't even remember my first trip. i was probably only a few months old, bundled up and exploring the world with my parents. they decided early on that they wanted to introduce their children to the world, to teach hands-on by learning more about places, people and cultures. to date, i've been to seventeen countries and will visit another three countries in the next six months. i consider myself priviledged to have the opportunity to travel extensively and together, with my husband, we have now repriotizied our lives so as to accomodate our love for exploration.
travel is our glimpse into the world around us. we can visit other countries, meet other people and blend into everyday life... while learning more about how the world works. with each visit, we are given a new lens to look through and whether we turn that lens to re-examine our own lives, or use it on our next adventure, that new lens offers a new dimension and a new piece of the puzzle. the world around us is not black or white, nor is it gray. it is full of bright colors and shapes... and to not hear, feel, taste and see these patterns is to fail to understand who we are, where we come from and what we are destined to do.
travel offers an opportunity to visit the past, meet the present and think about the future.
